Peter Mullye immigrated from Roseslare, Belgium, in 1915, sailing on the Kroonland from Antwerp, a nearby port city. Like many other immigrants, his journey was part survival and part opportunity. He came from a large family of 15 children and probably would’ve starved according to his grandson Dave Mullye.

After arriving in New York, he journeyed to Lansing, Michigan, and in September 1915, married Blanche Huffine. Peter worked for REO Motors as a tool and die craftsman for most of his career.

Peter, whose goal was to become a machinist, brought a machinist hammer on his trip, which Dave Mullye still has today.

Peter became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1920.

Peter and Blanche’s grandson Dave Mullye continues the tradition of living in a small village atmosphere, where on the Eastside of Lansing, he has constructed and restored several cottages and apartments. In 2000, a large contingent of the Mullye family met in Roseslare for a family reunion.
