Join the Historical Society of Greater Lansing as we welcome historian, author, and photographer Jeff Morrison back to Lansing for a launch of his new book, Guardians of Michigan: Architectural Sculpture of the Pleasant Peninsulas. The 500-page just-released publication contains hundreds of photographs and takes a look at the architectural beauty and decorative arts of hundreds of buildings across Michigan, including the former Bank of Lansing, Lansing’s J.W. Sexton High School, and a variety of buildings at Michigan State University.
The sixty-minute program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Lake Erie Room at the Library of Michigan. Morrison will present more than 250 spectacular photographs of interesting architectural sculpture found on buildings throughout Michigan, from Adrian to Ontonagon and all points in between. You will learn about the symbolism behind the sculpture and hear some of the untold stories of the artists, artisans, and architects involved in the creation of these wonderful structures and the unique art that adorns them. The event is free and books will be available for sale. This immense volume would make a perfect Holiday gift!
