Lansing’s 1959 Centennial through Souvenirs & Objects

The City of Lansing celebrated its centennial in 1959. This included one of the largest parades the city had ever seen and an array of merchandise, souvenirs, and memories. This may be one of Lansing’s most photographed events, with thousands of snapshots and slides taken depicting the parade down Michigan Avenue and fully grown beards on many of the city’s men participating in Brothers of the Brush. Assembled here is a look at some of the fun items from the Historical Society of Greater Lansing’s collection relating to the 1959 Lansing Centennial celebration!

If you have any items from Lansing’s Centennial celebration you wish to donate, please contact us. We are interested in souvenirs like these, your photographs, and anything else that may have survived from 1959.
